"National Punch A Slut Day"

As I was strolling around on Facebook once again there was another degrading event to women. Which was "National Punch a Slut Day" apparently it takes place on April 30 all day, and it says that if you see a "slut" to punch her. What exactly defines a slut and who does it apply to, I don't know. I just thought this was extremely crazy. Guys are commenting on the event saying outrageous and violent things like "I cant wait to punch the f***ing s**t out of this girl I know" or "All of the girls deserve it" and more outlandish things. To me, it just seems like our society promotes girls to promiscuous, and then when they are they are insulted and outcasted for doing so. Sometimes I feel like our society, wants to be accepting and attempts to be accepting but then when someone rebels they rebel. I believe we are so worried about being judged by others that we never actually let our own self show and when we do, we get called out for it.

Facebook group: "Girls should make the first move, and that first move should be a sandwich"

I was just hanging around on Facebook when I saw some of my guy friends "becoming a fan" of this facebook group. I was a little appalled that someone would actually make a group dedicated to the belief that the only thing women are good for is to make men food. You hear those derogatory jokes all the time but guys who think they're cool, but in all reality, it's not cool. You are humiliating a group of individuals who have done nothing to deserve it. I was even more appalled when girls were commenting on the fan page and going along with the jokes. I understand that some women accept and agree with the idea that they should tend and do everything for their "man" but really? Some girls on this page are asking what type of bread or what type of meat, and guys are responding with things like "you'll go far in life" because someone can make a sandwich? This page is just really sexist and I don't understand why any women would joke about it. Constantly we are put on a pedestal to be a certain idea and since I've been taking this class, it seems that constantly I am trying to find ways to veer away from that pedestal.
